Pavitr Prabhakar

, also known as Spider-Man India, is a superhero who first appeared in the 2004 comic book miniseries Spider-Man: India. The character was created by Sharad Devarajan, Jeevan J. Kang, and Suresh Seetharaman to appeal to an Indian audience

Origin and Storyline
Pavitr Prabhakar's origin story is a re-imagining of Peter Parker's, set in India. He is a poor village boy who moves to Mumbai with his aunt Maya and uncle Bhim to attend a prestigious school on a scholarship. Instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider, Pavitr receives his powers from a mystical yogi. He learns the classic lesson of "with great power comes great responsibility" after his uncle is killed while trying to help a woman whom Pavitr had initially ignored. His main villain is Nalin Oberoi, a businessman who becomes a demon-like Green Goblin.

Appearances
While originally a comic book character, Pavitr Prabhakar gained widespread recognition from his appearance in the animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), where he is voiced by Karan Soni. In the film, he lives in the city of "Mumbattan" (a blend of Mumbai and Manhattan) and is a member of the Spider-Society, a team of multiversal Spider-People. This version of the character is known for his upbeat personality, patriotism, and a distinct fighting style inspired by the Indian martial art kalaripayattu. He is set to return in the sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
